Senior ice hockey sticks 75-112

Types of ice hockey sticks

  • Composite sticks: Composite sticks absorb less moisture and retain their shape over a longer period.
  • Wooden sticks: Wooden sticks are often less expensive and offer a traditional feel with excellent puck control.
  • One-piece sticks: Because the shaft and blade are made as one piece, shots often feel more powerful and precise.
  • Two-piece sticks: Players can swap blades for different playing styles or ice conditions to adapt to changing situations.

Buying an ice hockey stick: wood or composite

Material is one of the most obvious differences between ice hockey sticks. Depending on what a stick is made from, it has different characteristics to consider when deciding whether it is right for you.
Wooden sticks are the traditional option. They have the advantage of providing a very smooth feel when handling the puck, sometimes even smoother than composite alternatives. Their lower price is another benefit. However, wooden hockey sticks are also heavier and are more prone to breaking during shots. The blade absorbs moisture through contact with the ice and becomes softer, which can change the wood and consequently the stick's handling. Even so, a wooden stick remains a good choice for beginners, hobby players and recreational players. Our wooden stick category regularly features excellent bargains.
These days, many players at every level prefer a composite stick. These are often made from blends of carbon fibre and fibreglass, making them particularly light and well balanced. There is also much more scope to tailor their stiffness, lie, blade curve and kick point. If you play for a club, particularly at an advanced or professional level, a composite stick is a suitable choice. We have divided our composite hockey sticks into different categories to make it easier to choose from our large range.

The flex of an ice hockey stick

Flex describes how readily a hockey stick's shaft bends. The rating indicates the force in pounds (lbs) needed to bend it by one inch: a lower number means a more flexible shaft.
Choose the flex to suit your strength, shooting technique and stick length. Lighter players may find a lower flex easier to load; stronger players may prefer a stiffer shaft. A higher flex is not automatically more powerful or accurate. Compare the feel and the exact model specifications.

Frequently asked questions

What materials are the ice hockey sticks at HP’s Sport Shop made from?

We stock ice hockey sticks made from both wood and composite materials. Each has advantages and disadvantages. In general, wooden sticks are better suited to hobby players and beginners, while composite sticks are particularly suitable for advanced and professional players.

What should you consider when choosing an ice hockey stick?

Physical characteristics such as height, weight and strength matter, but playing style, position and personal preference should also influence your choice. It therefore makes sense to buy a more expensive, precisely tailored stick once you have established your playing style. Simpler models are suitable before that point.

What categories of ice hockey sticks are available?

We divide our ice hockey sticks into goalie sticks, wooden sticks, senior, intermediate, junior and youth categories. Your age, height and weight can help you narrow down the selection when choosing a stick.
