Sticks Intermediate (55-75 Flex)

A 55–75-flex stick may suit younger or lighter players when its length and construction also fit. Flex describes the force in pounds needed to bend a stick by one inch in the relevant test. Lower flex is easier to load, but it does not automatically store more energy or improve accuracy. Choose according to strength, technique and preferred feel.

Hockey sticks with 55–75 flex

Choosing a 55–75-flex stick

Suitable loading:This range can suit players who find a stiffer stick difficult to bend, regardless of whether they are beginners or experienced players.
Puck feel:Flex, blade construction and balance all influence handling. Compare the complete model.
Comfortable technique:Choose a stick you can load naturally. A flex rating alone does not guarantee reduced fatigue or prevention of injury.
Different positions:Players in offensive or defensive roles can use this range when it suits their strength and technique.

Materials used in 55–75-flex sticks

Models may combine carbon fibre and fibreglass in composite constructions. Fibre layout and manufacturing tune weight, stiffness and flex response along the shaft. Exact materials and durability vary by model.

Choosing a blade pattern

Blade curve and face opening affect puck handling, passing and shooting. The available pattern is independent of the 55–75-flex rating: there is no single curve used throughout this range. Compare the manufacturer’s patterns and your own technique.

55–75 flex for developing players

Teenagers and lighter adults may find suitable options here. Check length, grip dimensions and playing side as well as flex; moving to a higher age group does not automatically require a stiffer stick.

Frequently asked questions

Is it normal for a 55–75-flex stick to bend?

Elastic bending during a shot is part of how the stick works. Permanent deformation, cracks or a sudden change in feel can indicate damage. Inspect regularly and avoid loads outside the stick’s intended use.

How should I clean a 55–75-flex stick?

Wipe the shaft and blade with a soft cloth and, where permitted by the manufacturer, a mild cleaner. Avoid aggressive chemicals and dry the stick afterwards.

How should I store a 55–75-flex stick?

Store it in a cool, dry place away from direct heat and moisture. Do not stack heavy objects on it. A suitable rack or secure upright storage helps prevent accidental damage.
